Dialogue, quotations, comma splices, punctuation oh my!

There is so much that I don’t know about writing, I’m sure that doesn’t surprise anyone. I do have to keep reminding myself of this fact though, and when I do, I also need to remind myself that I can learn. If you don’t know something, then of course you can throw up your hands, say that you suck at xyz and throw in the towel, OR, you can suck it up. Accept the fact that you are not omnipotent and start researching, learning, practising  ask for help and advice and keep striving to advance your skills and (ick I hate this next bit) do some personal growth!

The following is just basically a list of resources I recently found through Scribophile and I wanted to store them somewhere so that I could refer back to them later. Life is a learning curve, this is my next one to overcome:

General writing tools

Yeah, ok so I have a lot of reading to do *sigh*

  1. Thank you for all of this great information! My grammar stinks…well, not when I actually pay attention to it. I normally write free flow not worrying about grammar. Of course I have my secret weapon…my dad is a College English Professor and a published author so when I get stuck I use the “dad card!” lol But now I have this list of sites to go to first. Thank you.

  2. I like the learning nth at is the best part. I assume I’ll never know enough, but in that lack of knowing, create interesting things anyway. You can do it. But, enjoy the process! :). I’ve got a scribophile account but haven’t done anything with my account. Thanks for the links.

  3. Bookmarking this for later…thanks for sharing your links 🙂

Oh, and btw…many of the best writers are terrible with most of the above. That’s why they have editors. The fact that we as indies need to learn it all on our own just makes us twice as awesome!

  4. Hi there! I stumbled across your blog when I searched, “creative writing”! These are excellent resources!! I’m helping out with a site called Noveljoy.com (basically where writers can post their work) and it includes a section for people who are nice enough to give pointers about writing and storytelling! This resource list would be awesome to add to our “course list”! If you want, you can check it out and see whether you want to join and add the “course” to our website?
